Merlins on the moorland

We were lucky enough to see a pair of merlins high on the moorland above the lighthouse yesterday. They are Britain’s smallest bird of prey – they look a bit like large swallows. They are incredibly speedy, darting about and catching dragonflies to eat. Far too speedy for us to catch a photo, so here’s one from the RSPB.
